This morning had such promise! the sun was shining – mostly and I had a busy but enjoyable day ahead! So having taken Pretaboire to work with cakes for everyone (tomorrow is his birthday!) I merrily set off for Tesco to buy Normans dinners. You see I have a friend (Norman) who works horridly long hours looking after other people so I do their shopping and cook them some scrummy dinners, for a small concession of course! So earphones in, music loud and sing my way round the supermarket. Done in no time and on my way to K’s house for cuppa and a catch up. Brilliant – gossiped, drank coffee, set the world to rights – home to cook!!
All going swimmingly – Food cooking, laptop in the corner playing an old movie on DVD to entertain me, cats asleep on the stairs and out of the way!
Pork and apple casserole done, potato dauphinoise done, cauliflower cheese done, pastry case for quiche blind baking in the oven (Can’t have a soggy bottom – Mary Berry would never forgive me!) So the pastry is ready to come out, the filling ready, eggs beaten, cheese grated and bacon and chicken chopped! As I lift the flan dish out of the oven I catch the edge of the chopping board on which was stands a bag of flour. As the flour goes up in the air (all very slow motion – movie style) I panic, and drop the flan case to catch the open bag of flour. Sadly in my enthusiasm apply too much pressure on the bag, forcing the flour up an out all over the worktop, the floor and me! The pastry case falls out of the dish – so I obviously did a good job of greasing it – and they both land on the kitchen floor.
The noise of the dish and my exclamation of surprise and then anger woke the cats, sending them into a flurry of activity. This basically involves a high speed chase through the kitchen, bounce of the bathroom door and back past me into the dining room – THROUGH THE FLOUR!! All except Sasha who being an old lady doesn’t run like the others but jogs sedately behind them and pauses, sniffs and lays down on the warmest spot she can find – as she always does. Usually the laptop, a radiator, on the ironing or as she did today – on the pastry now on the kitchen floor!
The phone rings – it’s Dad “shall I pop over for a cuppa this afternoon?”, “Of course” say I, surveying Normans quiche now a cat bed, and the trail of little pussy cat paw prints across the dining room carpet and up the stairs!
The most annoying thing? I finished swearing and shouting at the cats, I dashed about with hoover and damp cloth, threw away the pastry and generally cleaned up the mess, after all Dad was coming over, only then to remember the 365 project. What a perfect picture for the day it would have made?
HAha you poor thing so funny, what a mess and you must of been so mad
i was but can see the funny side now!
Oh no! Cats seem to have impeccable timing when it comes to things like that, they always show up when there's trouble going down to add a comedy factor to it!xxx
Further proof that cats always find the most inconvenient spot to take a nap. 😀
