Yesterday afternoon I spent an emotional afternoon with a wonderful group of ladies who blog. We were honoured to be attending the funeral of our beloved Multiple Mummy
As we stood in the pub afterwards we naturally turned to talking about our blogs, our families and Mammasaurus’s obsession with leg hair and other peoples pants! A strange conversation to be had, but I guess one I should have expected really!!
It suddenly occurred to me what on earth did I have in common with these people? They are planning children’s birthday parties, choosing primary schools and dealing with breast feeding, teething and toddler tantrums! I traveled 500 miles to see my baby boy for Christmas, he cooked an amazing dinner and hosted us all for a week. In the summer he will be leading a group of teenagers into the arctic circle for a 5 week long science experiment. My little girl is as tall as I am and is planning her university career! I don’t even remember half the things they are about to embark on!
(Made me feel bloody old too! Although I’m pretty sure I’m not that much older really!)
And yet……. there we were….. strangers really…..from all over the country…….. With nothing more in common than we have a blog and a Facebook page and a Twitter account.
But we were there, and we all felt the same things and suddenly it really rang home to me.
It didn’t matter that we were different ages. If didn’t matter that our children were different ages, or at different points of the education system. it didn’t matter who wrote sponsored posts or had a million and 3 domain names. It didn’t even matter if one of us had hairy legs!
We all enjoy what we do. We all enjoy our children (most of the time) We enjoy and share a sense of humour.
We’re bloggers! We blog and we’re proud. Proud of what we write and proud of what we accomplish by doing it! When someone is down we hug them, when someone succeeds we cheer them and when someone is lost to their family we support and nurture as we can and hold each other up in grief.
So don’t label us – or yourself – just be who you are and what you are!
N.B the picture is irrelevant to this post really – but it made me smile (and doesn’t that monkey have hairy legs?)
