What can I (or should I) say about you? You probably won’t see this, so I could be very rude about your ever increasing old age, terrible jokes or lack of ice cream scoop. But I won’t – that would be mean!
So instead I’ll tell you how wonderful you are, and how much we love you.
And we do love you very much.
Your never ending energy, your zest for life and total inability to just sit still and chill! I mean for goodness sake man you’re 81! And you’re never at home. Between your twice weekly trips to the gym, hours and hours volunteering at Duxford and god knows how many trips to the pub with Uncle Michael every week we struggle to find you some days!
When we were little you were busy working, bringing home the bacon and I don’t feel that we were that close, and we certainly fell out when I was a teenager. But since we lost Mum we have become so much closer and I relish the time we spend together. Our day trips out, long lazy dinners round the table and generalised gossiping are always happy times.
You are always there when someone needs help, a shoulder to lean on, a source of advice and would never see anyone go without if you can help! You have adopted extra family members wherever you have gone and ‘Uncle Reg’ is a much loved addition to many lives.
So thank you Dad, thank you for being you, for being there and for being an epic Granddad to our babies, here’s to many more years of pulling your leg, bullying you to behave yourself and checking that you’re not using the ladder when you’re on your own in the flat!
Here’s to you Pops, a legend in your own lunch time!
