What wonderful weather we having! The sun is shining, the birds are tweeting and the kids are about to break up for the holidays! Personally I can’t wait, six whole weeks of family time, late lazy breakfasts in the garden, tea time trips to the beach and no one’s timetable but our own!
BUT! when you need to go shopping, when the need is there for the dreaded trip into town, new shoes, posh frock for a summer wedding, or replacement bits for the house – it all turns into a nightmare!
Queues into the car park, the high street overrun with bored mums and even more bored children being dragged round for the ‘new school uniform’ hunt. Stuffy changing rooms never with enough space, the children causing chaos outside whilst you struggle into your chosen dress as someone else’s children whiz past, knocking the curtain to onside and exposing you pants to the rest of the store! The constant whine of ‘how much longer mum’, ‘can we go to the park mum’, ‘I want an ice cream’. No matter how hard you try, they just don’t care what colour towels you buy for the newly decorated bathroom.
There’s only one way to do it! Shop online!
Set the paddling pool up, sun cream the kids from top to toe and retire to a safe distance in the shade with the laptop and a tall cool drink and buy it all at a distance! Try it on in the comfort of your own bedroom. Better lighting,a cup of tea on hand, and no teenage shop assist, judging your choices or speaking to you as though you’re an idiot!
So forgive me if I don’t bump into you in town over the summer – I’ll be in the garden, with some Pimms and my feet up choosing my shopping on the laptop!
