Road trip challenge!

July 25, 2013

Where would £50 worth of fuel take you? asked Money Supermarket.

For us it was no question – Scotland! (always assuming my darling sister would lend us her car of course! not sure mine would make it that far on 50 quid!)

Many happy family trips have been spent on the A1 heading to Scotland! Now our Splosh lives there is is the go to destination for high days and holidays!

Of course the children are much bigger now so we don’t have to plan the journey round them sleeping as we did when they were younger and a part of me sort of misses that!

We would bundle them still asleep into the back of the car at about 4 in the morning and set off! DH would settle back to snooze and I would wend my way up the A1 listening to the shipping forecast on radio 4.

Scotch Corner was always a favourite part of the journey, it meant it was breakfast time! Wake the children and DH up and turn off for a big cup of coffee and a bacon sarnie!

From here on in the views are well worth looking at and we’d sing, tell jokes and generally enjoy the journey!

The Tesco’s at the Forth Road bridge for lunch. They would go buy a picnic whilst I snooze in the car, as the only driver, I need a break sometimes!

Berwick-upon-Tweed, Eyemouth, Burnmouth, The Forth Road Bridge, beautiful views up the A9 through the highlands and more lately the trip from Perth up to “The Deen” with Splosh and our Irish baby waiting for us at the other end!

It was on a trip to Scotland some years ago that we took my favouritest family picture! the camera balanced on the roof of the car, us ready for the picture as Splosh set the timer and ran back to place! The layby on the A1 just at the border into Scotland

Jiminy Spudrocket and the Wondernuggets – Scottish tour – 2010

If you fancy a beautiful drive though – you can’t do much better than the wilds of the North East coast, amazing views, beautiful blue sea and 101 distractions for the little ones!

Enjoy! – I wish I was going with you!
