How many times did I hear that in my youth?
“You may think this is The One but these teenage romances never last – best not to get too involved”
“You’ll only get your heart broken if you take it too seriously”
My late teenage years were filled with such statements, advice from older people and scorn from a lot of my peers.
I was never in any doubt!
This was The One, This was who I would spend my life with, the man who would be the father of my children, and my support in old age!
So just under a month before my 19th birthday – we got married! Yes folks I was 18 when I got married, He was 20, and it was our first anniversary – we had been together exactly a year to the day!
Well guess what all you doubters? Your were wrong and I was right!
This weekend is our wedding anniversary, 23 years and 2 children later we are still a couple!
I make no claims that it has been an easy ride, there have been times when have probably both wanted to kill the other one. There have been some spectacular rows and plenty of tears…. but at the end of it all, he is who he is and I am who I am and we’re go together, fit together, and stay together!
We have grown to the adults we are, because of each other. We finish each others sentences, we laugh at jokes that we never say out loud but both know the punch line. I will be at home thinking “should have bought a pint of milk” and he will arrive home with one without me saying anything! Freaks the kids out no end!
So Happy Anniversary Badger! You as ever, my first, last and always!
