It’s that time of the week again! Get out my soap box and starting shouting! And thanks to the very lovely Mummy Barrow I have the opportunity to bore you all with it!
This week has been a particularly angry week for me (can you tell I have hormones??) So there may be more than one rant in here!
Thankfully the whole supermarket “mental patient” Halloween costume has been covered, far more eloquently than I could have done, by our wonderful host Mummy B, which lightening my load no end!
However my rant is not over –
Rudeness – that’s it plain and simple – rudeness.
Not saying please or thank you. Barging into people in the street because you seem to think you own it. Treating the person behind the counter in a shop as though they are shit on the sole of your shoe. And mostly, hugely and liver knawingly at the top of my list – being rude on line or in a text!
Pleeeeeease people remember that there is no intonation in a text or a facebook comment. It is read as it is written, short, abrupt, and rude. You don’t can’t see the face of the person sending the message so can’t read their body language and understand their meaning. Equally you can’t see the reaction of the person receiving it and the hurt of upset you cause by not thinking!
Now there are those amongst you – I know you’re reading – who would say “I don’t care, if you don’t like it don’t read it”, ” I’m not rude, I’m just honest/frank/to the point”.
Well guess what love, you’re not frank and to the point – you’re rude! and you need to learn the difference between the two.
Someone said to me earlier in the week about someone’s rudeness, “you have to understand how much shit he has had in his life, he doesn’t mean it, but he was abused as a kid so you kinda let to have him be that way”….
Do you know what? No I bloody don’t! There are any number of people who were abused as children, and they don’t behave like arseholes! They behave like caring and genuine members of society, because they understand what it’s like to on the receiving end of anger and bile! Your abuse, lack of compassion, bad parenting, crappy school life, bullied as a kid back story doesn’t give you the right to be rude now…to me! I did none of those things to you, so why do I have to suffer the backlash?
So please don’t insult me by suggesting your background or circumstance is an excuse. Consider what you write before you write it. And instead scowling at the girl behind the till, smile, say please and thank you and leave her feeling better than when you found her – it will cost you nothing and mean everything to her!
Sorry – the polar bear is nothing to do with being polite or rude but just a reminder (yes again) to sign the Greenpeace petition to release the 30 activists being held by the Russian government!
