Well it’s a red letter day in our family today.
Today my boy is a real life proper grown up.
Today he moves on to the next step in his life.
No longer a student, with a job to keep him going whilst he studies.
Today he moves on to the world of work.
The first step on the rungs of a career.
Thank you Aberdeen for making my boy a man, and thank you for bringing us our beautiful Irish baby.
Here is his goodbye to the City that has been his home since he left us and his parting song!
Its been quite a journey we have shared you and I over the past 4 and a half years.
I arrived wide-eyed and fresh(ish) faced to start my university journey back in 2009 expecting to spend four years gaining an education, little did I know quite what kind of an education You would give me.
The degree falls by the wayside when compared to rest of my education here, life, love and a million and one other things you have taught me that I may never have learned if things had been different.
It hasn’t always been easy, and certainly hasn’t been fun all the time, but I can safely say, hand on heart that without you I would not be about to embark on the adventures that lay ahead of me. You have filled a number of the spaces in my soul that I brought with me when I first arrived.
Brilliant Friends, amazing experiences, Countless Laughs, A deep seated and genuine sense of satisfaction and of course above all a woman who I plan to love and cherish for the rest of my life.
That being said, I’m sick of your seagulls and drunk ignorant oil-workers, grey buildings and skies and pavement pizza, UNAAAY students and rampant inequality. so I’m going to go somewhere green and new to start being a Grown up(ish) now, Ciao.
Friends of Aberdeen, I cannot thank you enough for you friendship, support, and countless other niceties that you have shared with me in our time together. I love you all. And cannot wait for the exciting places and experiences we can share in the future when our paths cross again.
Good luck my boy – I’d say “make me proud” but you already do that everyday!
