I’m sure you all know that I’ve been taking part in the Team Honk baton relay from Landsend to John o Groats raising money for Sport Relief. It’s been a pretty amazing experience to see so many people all pull together with one aim in mind.
Earlier this week the “Honkettes” (Mammasaurus Mummy Barrow & Alexander Residence )travelled to Tanzania to meet with some of the people who have been helped by previous fundraising – making a lasting change to the lives of some of the poorest people in Africa and this country.
Let me introduce Claudia an inspirational 54 year old mother and grandmother who, with support from The Gatsby Trust has turned a her hobby of soap making into a profitable business.
A year ago when Claudia first starting receiving support for TGT she was producing 20 litres of liquid soap a month, selling to friends and family. Now, just one year on Claudia produces 3,000 litres per month, employs two people and she not only sells to friends, family and local community but also supplies products to hotels and shops. Claudia, like the other women the girls been meeting on their trip, spends time training other women both locally and in further afield.
It’s wonderful to think that the £2 you put in the collecting tin today will help someone like Claudia tomorrow. And not just with an emergency parcel of food or medicines but with the tools she needs to build a sustainable life for her and her family – to build a future for her children – and along with other women like her build a community and infrastructure for her nation!
So please put your hand in your pocket and help make a #lastingchange to lives of thousands like Claudia!
