2.9 millions babies round the world die in their first month of life. Often of simple and preventable conditions. Simple things such as clean water, antiseptics, a clean warm environment and most importantly the attention of a qualified midwife.
We have the help we need when we deliver our babies, so why should’t every woman? Why shouldn’t every baby?
When Splosh was in difficulty there was a wonderful midwife on hand to help us both through and a SCBU for him to recover in. When Bernard needed encouragement to arrive into the world, there was a team of people to do just that.
Millions of women give birth every year alone, afraid and with the certain knowledge that their baby may never reach their first milestone.
You could be part of the movement that puts a stop to this. 2 Minutes of your time and the small change from your pocket could help put an end that misery and suffering.
This year for the first time ever, countries and institutions around the world will sit down to agree the Every Newborn Action Plan. Save the Children want to make sure world leader’s take action on this and know the world is calling for them to do so.
Their goals are:
Save the lives of 2 million newborn babies a year
Ensure that every baby is born with the support of a trained and equipped midwife.
They need your help to see that these goals are achieved! Your input has made a hug difference already – Thanks to global action on vaccines, family planning and treatment of childhood illness, the number of children who die each year has dropped from 12.6 million in 1990 to 6.6 million in 2012.
That’s the number of child deaths cut in half in 12 years! Think what else we can achieve!
Please show your support – sign the petition here and share it with everyone else you know!
And think – as you go out to work tomorrow, or decide to pop out for a coffee with friends over the weekend – spare a thought for the difference one cup of cappuccino would make – not a lot of difference to you but a world of difference to a labouring mother in another part of the world.
