We see them all the time don’t we? TV mummmy’s that is! Holding the imaginary family together, a the ever patient for the neighbour hood to lean on, or the exasperated parent of naughty children. Rolls we all take on at times I suppose!
And I guess we all have a favourite or two don’t we as well as those we love to hate.
So having looked through the list of top ten TV mums I’m
ashamed surprised how few of them I knew anything about!
I’ve never seen Desperate Housewives, Modern Family or the Gilmore Girls so I have no idea how good or otherwise these mum’s are sadly! Are they worth watching? Should I hunt them out online?
However the Dowager Countess Grantham is bloody awesome! Well I say that is she? or is it just Maggie Smith?
The character is so beautifully written by Mr Fellowes with such wit and cutting sarcasm. I only wish I could think of those one liners in time to use them! I’m the person who thinks of the comment 3 hours later when it’s way too late to use and have to try and remember for the next time I see someone. Ha! me remember something! yeah right!
I love the idea of being the grand matriarch, and have everyone show due deference. I think a big hat would suit me and a silver topped cane to bang on the floor in disgust! I think the role fits me don’t you think?
I like the idea of people curtseying or standing when I enter a room, holding doors open and even having a driver – I think I’ll call him Banks. And maybe a ladies maid to lace my boots for me! Lets call her Morris.
Big house, fancy threads, witty come backs and children who hang on her every word.
The reality sadly is a small semi detached house, charity shop clothing bargains sticking my tongue out and children who often raise their eyes to heaven when I ask them something.
Maybe I just want Lady Grantham’s bank balance……is it easier to be witty when you’re rich?
