Welcome to week 2 of Oh You Pretty Little Things this week – the heirloom edition!
I couldn’t decide whether I should share an heirloom or whether I should come up with something which in time will become an heirloom for my children – or maybe both!
When we lost my mum we all had something of hers and I like to think that in time it will go on to my daughter. It has no value to anyone else, it wouldn’t make money in an auction, but to me it’s priceless, the story of my mum on holiday and the story of gifts from her family while they travelled…Her charm bracelet
There are so many little trinkets from so many different places, Venice, Scotland, Las Vegas and just about everywhere in between! I don’t wear it very often, because I’m terrified of loosing it, but mostly cos it’s reeeeally heavy and you could lay someone out with it if you turn round too quickly!
I’ve not added anything to it since it became mine, I don’t want to take away from it being completely hers, although there is one which I may take off as a gift for someone else. When my niece was born someone bought mum a babies rattle charm with a pink stone in it as a gift to the new Grandma. When that little Granddaughter grew up and had a baby girl of her own, my dad bought that little bundle a bracelet of her own, so maybe we should move the charm over to her treasure, and then in years to come she can tell her children all about it.
So come on – show us your heirlooms – what have you given and what will you pass on in turn? Go on over to see my chum Sonya and her treasures too grab the badge and then link up – we’ll come on over to say hi as soon as you do!!
Next week Sonya is hosting with cups & mugs – a favourite, an heirloom or something that makes you laugh! go on over next Tuesday and link up!

Oh that is a gorgeous thing, am peering closely at the pics to pick out the different charms – it tells such a story! xx
I love it! And it brings back lots of happy memories of holidays as a a family
What a lovely lovely bracelet. I am about to inherit an heirloom on my wedding day and am very thankful to receive it. My Great-Grandmothers wedding ring has been resized and will now become my wedding ring. It is a lovely ring and it reminds us all of the Lord of the rings “One Ring”. It could easily have passed to my elder sister and brother, however they went for new rings and they are lovely too. I feel very lucky and honoured to receive it, especially on such a special day. In reply to your post I think it should be treasured and when little people are around the wonderful story of the charms is told. Then when you feel its right it passes on.
Really loved this blog, keep them coming.
And I can’t wait to see it & you in your dress! x x
This is absolutely precious! You’ve just given me a great idea. I’m thinking now whether to buy my daughter a charm bracelet on her 5th birthday and add a new charm each year? But then again, it should be a bracelet that can somehow be adjusted so she can wear it till she’s an adult? Is there such a thing? … You’re so lucky to have this in your family 🙂
A simple chain bracelet could be worn shorter or longer as you wanted. I think it’s a lovely idea and also a really good present for people who might be travelling overseas and want to get her a little keepsake!
