“Hang on guys before we do this I just need to pop out for a ciggie”
One of the less hazardous but tedious side effects of smoking is how often it effects my hobby time. Just getting into the flow of painting or model making – Stop for 10 minutes for a quick smoke.
Getting into some intense online gaming with friends that has to stop so I can nip out for a cigarette.
Disappearing every so often at a re-enactment to find a quiet corner for a gasper.
Disturbing an intense bit of role-play at a larp so I can go for a smoke.
Now this could be easily solved by just giving up, something I am still in the process of doing I understand the risks, like we all, but the reality is I am addicted and just stopping is not so easy.
Six months ago I discovered vaping or ecigs (a little late I know) now not only do I get to tinker with all kinds of cool gadgets like heating coils and stuff that lights up, it means I can vape in the house, no more standing in the rain! Now my online gaming continues uninterrupted.
When I need a smoke at an event I can duck into a tent for a quick vape and away we go .
I can vape whilst painting or crafting or costume making without interruption or making the props smell smoky.
Also when I eventually get myself a Gandalf style vape pipe I can vape away at LARPs to my heart delight .
When it comes to Science Fiction –Post apocalypse/Cyberpunk LARPs the e-cigs actually fit into the setting rather well and increase the immersion rather than detract from it.
So all in all vaping has made my hobby time that bit more enjoyable and it also means I can sit on the sofa in front of my favourite movie or TV series and enjoy a coffee and a vape. As for the “real thing” well intake is seriously down and my health is better which can only be a good thing!
