I’ve heard it time and again since Friday morning,
“get over it – you lost”
“stop going on about it, you can’t change it now”
“why don’t people just accept the decision and move on”
And I have to admit to be being just a little baffled by it all.
So just to clarify, because the Conversatives “won” the election so I should stop disagreeing with their policies, stop being angry at the injustices I believe will be a fundamental part of their government. (and I’m using the bunny ears on “won” because securing 36% of the vote is not reeeeeally winning in my opinon)
Well thank you for that everyone, but actually……..No I’m not going to shut up about it! I won’t just walk away and wait 5 years to have another go!
You see that’s basically what people are saying to me – that politics only happens every 5 years. Once the votes are counted, it’s all done with until the next time – nothing you can do – so get on with it, get over it and shut up moaning about it!
So do we now have to use this mind set for everything? If we don’t win or succeed we just have to accept it and move on?
Rightio then –
So we failed at getting 3rd world debt cancelled the last few times we tried – so we’d probably best give that up as a bad idea.
HIV – we haven’t managed to cure that yet – so stop there please.
Child marriage – thousands of young girls every year are married against their will and suffer abuse and death at the hands of their husbands. How many campaigns have we had to end this vile act? Has it worked? No, so give it up!
Cancer?…….starvation in Africa?……SIDS?…………torture and slavery?…… No of these things have changed or ended despite valiant attempts by amazing people! And the list doesn’t end there!
Yet we don’t give up, we keep trying. We continue to campaign other world leaders, we raise money, argue our case and try our damnedest to stop it all.
So forgive me for not following the advice of the Facebook meme of “Keep calm and get over it”
Whilst there is social injustice, tax evasion by the worlds wealthy elite, and cuts to our public services which will cause suffering to those in the most need and diminish our children’s future, I will not shut up or get over it!
Politics happens all year around, every year and I for one intend to continue those struggles I believe in.
If you don’t like it, sorry, but tough!
