I missed the meteor shower this year! We were in the highlands and well away from light pollution, so we would have had a wonderful view, but we were so busy caught up visiting family and friends that I completely forgot to go out and watch!
We did try to watch it last year, but balanced precariously on the shed roof, suddenly realising I should have gone to the loo before clambering up there, turned out to be a disaster and led only to harsh words rather than a vision of the heavens!
One day, when I’m rich and famous, or maybe find a winning lottery ticket I will have a house in the mountains, where it is truly dark at night, with no orange glow from the street lights and I can see the stars from my bedroom window! We have talked a lot about dream houses on the drive to and from the north this year, planning our perfect hideaway, even down to the details of the garden layout. A huge kitchen with a table and chairs for family dinners . South facing with a wall of windows and big open doors so that breakfast spills out onto the garden.
A cosy library room, with more books than it is possible to read, over sized sofas and a roaring fire for long winter evenings and heavy curtains to keep out the draughts.
But my big dream is to have a bathroom with a view. I love the idea of laying in the bath and looking out over the hills or maybe a waterfall like Reekie Linn …….we spent a very lovely day there this summer, well worth a visit if you’re in the area!
Up to my neck in bubbles and watching the moon over the fields. I think maybe I want the bathroom up in the attic. An oddly shaped room with slopping ceilings and a windows in the roof like these from Velux. Natural light first thing in the morning, a view to enjoy and the chance to soak away the day with the sunset!
Oh well, back to my slightly soggy back garden and doing the post holiday laundry but I guess there’s no harm in dreaming! Although it might help if I actually bought a lottery ticket every so often!
