Siblings – August

August 30, 2015

I know it's late in the month to join in the link up with Lucy at Dear Beautiful, but we've been waiting for our family holiday to catch a snap of my two lovelies in the same place! University, distance and work commitments have kept them apart since Christmas and so we've had no opportunity to join in since then. It turns out the Lake District is about the half way point between us all and so we all met up for a week, to have some serious family time. It always makes me smile that no matter how long they have been apart these two always slip back into their sibling relationship as … [Read more...]

A Tudor Tourist weekend in London

August 3, 2015

I'm not the greatest fan of visiting our nations capital, huge crowds and busy streets aren't my idea of a fun weekend. But I was convinced this weekend to go along with Badger to see the  Tudor Joust at the Tower of London, and seeing as he was taking part - it was rude not to go along! And what a show it was! Past pleasures & Griffin Historical put on a great show. Beautiful costumes and amazing horsemanship gave the audience a really good days entertainment! And as for the city itself -  I have to say I was pleasantly surprised! Whilst it was of course heaving with people and very … [Read more...]

Summer’s nearly here!

July 18, 2015

My Facebook timeline is full of people counting down the days until the holidays start. Summer's nearly here! Parents filled with dread at the thought entertaining their little darlings for 6 weeks - the school staff holding their breath until they can finally relax!     In our house? well it's rather an odd summer for Badger and I. We are stumbling towards the last day of term, bleary eyed, longing for next week, when we can turn the alarm clocks off and put our feet up! But it's also tinged with a little sadness this year, this is our first summer with a properly … [Read more...]

Empty nest travels

June 21, 2015

The "adults" in the Keynko collective have been planning! It's not as dangerous as it sound really - we're not going to take over the world...well this week anyway! But we have been plotting our holiday options and have decided to relive the dream we discussed all those hundreds of years ago before we had our babies - to have a camper-van and just hit the road! As we both work in education we have a whole summer holidays to fill (not to mention the half terms and Easter) So we have made the decision to save a little cash, sell the car and buy ourselves a little van to convert to a … [Read more...]

A weekend by the sea

June 19, 2015

To celebrate my first month in my new job, we decided to hit the road and have a weekend away. So picnic packed, toothbrushes and clean socks in bag, we set off. Portsmouth here we come! And what a wonderful time we had!       Well worth a visit, personal recommendation from us would be:- The Park & Ride - trust me the one way system looks seriously tricky! The D-day museum & Overlord Embroidery The Millennium Promenade  - a lovely trail to  follow from Southsea back to the Historic Dockyard. But just about the best bit... Fish … [Read more...]

No more standing out in the rain!

May 10, 2015

Commonly heard over TeamSpeak up until 6 months ago “Hang on guys before we do this I just need to pop out for a ciggie” One of the less hazardous but tedious side effects of smoking is how often it effects my hobby time. Just getting into the flow of painting or model making – Stop for 10 minutes for a quick smoke. Getting into some intense online gaming with friends that has to stop so I can nip out for a cigarette. Disappearing every so often at a re-enactment to find a quiet corner for a gasper. Disturbing an intense bit of role-play at a larp so I can go for a smoke. Now this could … [Read more...]

Royal baby? don’t really care!

May 2, 2015

So as a weekend of hype about the impending "Royal Birth" dawns, can I just point out - I don't give a shit! As a human being, I of course wish her well, a safe delivery and a healthy baby. As for her position in society and the attending news coverage, speculation and excitement? I find it nauseating! At a time when so many families are having to attend food banks to avoid their children going hungry, when thousands of people across the world face tyranny and persecution and schools system is crumbling from lack of funding and the stress on staff - why are we … [Read more...]

5 things to teach your children

April 23, 2015

My lovely blogging friend Michelle started a rather nice meme about teaching your children life lessons, so here is what we've always considered important!   1. Stand tall. Never let someone else get you down, never let someone else tell you that you're not worthy or not clever enough or not good enough! You are an amazing person, no one can ever tell you different! 2. Family is the most important thing in the world. Whether you are related by blood or by choice, your family are the people you choose to spend you time with. Love and nurture them because they are the … [Read more...]

You know your partner’s a roleplaying geek when……

April 22, 2015

I was inspired for this post by the very lovely Missie Lizzie who suffers the issues of a runner in the house! So in a similar vein, this is living with a roleplayer and wargamer! 1. They use more oven cleaner to strip paint off figures than you do on the oven. 2. Boxes and packaging are never thrown away, they make great scenery with some paint and flock in place. 3. You are the go to household for every fancy dress costume your friends ever need. 4. Every fancy dress party is planned like the D-Day landings. 5. Dice no longer just have six sides. 6. It's normal to … [Read more...]

Have I told you about my Dad?

April 9, 2015

Have I told you about my Dad? 83 next month and we're still running to keep up with him! Dancing like a hooligan at Bernard's 18th birthday last Easter     Playing in the snow in Scotland with Splosh & Irish Baby earlier this year   Quad biking with my brother in America - He was 80 at the time!     Fire watching in the mountains  of Washington state     And with my sisters and I, who he so politely refers to as "The Coven"       Nothing holds him back really! He even volunteers with a … [Read more...]
