West country holidays
I remember west country holidays as a child. Thatched cottages, colourful fishing villages, awesome fish and chips and long summer evenings playing badminton or rounders in the garden. There is something quite lovely about that part of the country and I want to visit again. We never went to Newquay while we were there and after looking into holiday destinations I beginning to think we should give it a go! I'm not really cut out for surfing to be honest - me in a wet suit is not a good look and the whole concept of standing on an ironing board in the sea baffles me (balance not a s … [Read more...]
Our boy Gruffalo
I remember the day Gruffalo was born! She has built her nest under Bernard's bed as she had before and torn up enough paper and stolen enough socks to sink the Titanic. She meowed her way through, desperate that one of us would stay with her until the 3 little bundles were delivered. 2 ginger toms and a multicoloured girl, all teeny tiny and perfect! Always so lovely that she wanted us with her. He fell in love the day he opened his eyes - and imprinted to her at once! Everywhere Bernard went - he went too! Sat on her lap, on her face if she laid down, in the hood of her jumper if he … [Read more...]

Thoughts turn to holidays
I know lots of other people consider their holiday plans from the moment they get home from the previous one, but I'm a last minute kinda girl! So now the the weather is cheering up and everyone is in summer mode, my thoughts turn to dream holidays! realistically with Bernard off to university this autumn and Splosh and Irish Baby just moving into their new home, this summer will probably consist of packing, shopping for student accommodation and helping my Scottish lovelies to find furniture and making curtains for the new flat! But it doesn't stopping me planing in my head - where would I … [Read more...]

52 cook book – week 23 A dish for uniform dating
Something a bit different this week! I was asked recently to join in a competition with Uniform Dating and Foodies100. They have been looking at the favourite foods of people who where a uniform for work as part of the launch of a new app. I've chosen a job close to my heart - Nursing! I spent many happy years on the wards as did Badger, our lovely Crown Street girls and in September our little girl Bernard is off to university to start her paediatric nurse training. Their research shows that the favourite dish of nurses is salad (came as a bit of shock to me - I lived on biscuits and toast … [Read more...]
Being clean and feeling grand!
We don't really use soap these days do we, it's shower gel or gel dispensers that we don't need to touch - you know 'cos of germs and things! And it's kinda sad, A good weighty bar of soap is quite a comforting thing to wash your hands with. Unless it's coal tar soap - which always reminds me of my G'ma - loved her - can't bear the smell of the soap! Well I've converted back to soap! Shower gel is all well and good in a hurry, or at the gym, but when I want to luxuriate in the bath with a cup of tea and a good book, or just want that sensation of clean soft skin on my hands after a day … [Read more...]
52 cook books week 22
I know I'm really late with this link up! but this week has been very full on so apologies! But here we are, a super quick, done in minutes vegetarian take on a classic salad. Made in a hurry for lunch in the garden with my bestie! Chicken (ish) Caesar Salad This week is a complete cheat! My darling chum arrived for lunch at the last minute and I had to make a super quick something with what we had and could grab from the corner shop! So with both of us being vegetarians and it being yummy weather I decided a super quick twist on a traditional caesar salad was in order! The … [Read more...]
Time with family and friends
Our boy Splosh came home this weekend and we have had a wonderful time with family and friends catching up and enjoying our time with him, limited as it is! A barbecue in the garden on Saturday afternoon was the perfect opportunity to snap some pictures for a blog post I've been thinking about for ages! So after a yummy dinner, a certain amount of hero worship for Splosh from young Beans, and a riotous game throwing Missie May in the air, We settled them for a group shot! I wanted to make the point about generations, and how friendships move on from one to another, about how important … [Read more...]
