Anyone who knows anything about me will understand that to sort and choose favourite books, will know what a mammoth task that would be! Our house is stuffed to the rafters with books, novels, trashy paperbacks, classics, military history, costume history, cookery, you name it – we probably have a book about it!
But I think I have whittled it down to a couple of favourites – well favourites for now anyway!
Here we go! No. 1 We read this in school (in fact I think maybe it was this actual copy!) and I fell in love with it straight away. So beautifully written, and a very lovely story! I’ve seen the film and it’s rubbish – don’t bother with it – read the book!
No. 2. Now rather than be a favourite, this is representative of a favourite series and author. Terry Pratchett is a true genius and I always have a book of his on the go (I tend to have several I’m reading all at once!) He paints a picture like no-one else, and one of the few authors who can make me laugh out loud in public!
No.3 A soppy old historical romance – and I don’t care!! This was my mums favourite book and she leant me her copy when I was about 14 and I fell in love with it! Trashy, silly, not completely historical accurate, but with lovely imagery. This version is the paperback by sister bought me for Christmas the year mum died, I do still have my mums copy tucked away safely – with the note in the front that it was bought as a gift for her in 1947 (I think) by her brother .
No.3 A classic! And this is probably my 4th or 5th copy. I bought this one in a charity shop some years ago. I read it at least twice a year, (along with it’s sister novel Pride & Prejudice) so they tend to wear out quite a bit! I do love to loose myself in an Austin, usually over the winter strangely – under a blanket, hot chocolate and a good slice of cake and I’m off for the evening!
Now have a hunt round your shelves and show us your favourites! Pop over to see Sonya’s collection and then come join in the link up!
